Police Coordinate with Military Police Detachment over Rape Suspect Who Passed Army Selection
Flores Timur Police (Polres Flotim), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), will coordinate with the Army’s Detachment of Military Police (Denpom Kupang) regarding a suspect in a rape and child sexual assault case who passed the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) selection and was sworn in as a soldier on 4 February 2026. The chief said he had received a report about a sexual violence suspect with initials ADO (22), from Lamawlang Village, Larantuka District, Flores Timur, NTT, who had passed the Army selection and was sworn in as an AD private. Based on this, he said the police would immediately coordinate with Denpom Kupang. ‘We have received the report that the suspect who committed rape and passed the army selection and has been sworn in as a TNI AD soldier will be coordinated with Denpom Kupang,’ Flores Timur Police Chief AKBP Adhitya Octorio Putra told CNNIndonesia.com, on Tuesday (3 February). He explained that the sexual violence case involving a female student who had just completed junior high school, initial MFNL (16), was reported by the victim’s parents on 31 August 2025 against the suspect ADO. The report was registered under LP/227/VIII/2025/SPKT/POLRES FLORES TIMUR/POLDA NTT dated 31 August 2025. From that report, investigators from the PPA unit of the Flores Timur Police Criminal Investigation (Reskrim) conducted a series of investigations, including questioning witnesses. The deliberation and subsequent investigation elevated the case to the indictment stage. From the outcome of the proceedings, ADO was named a suspect once two pieces of evidence were found. ‘The designation of ADO as a suspect (on 23 September 2025) followed the deliberation since the investigators had found two pieces of evidence,’ he said. ‘If the witnesses are three, then the case proceeds.’ He added that during the investigation the suspect was charged under a multi-article offence with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. ‘Phrases include Article 81(2) in conjunction with Article 81(1) of Law No. 17 of 2016 concerning Government Regulation in lieu of Law No. 01/2016, as a amendment to Law No. 23/2002 on child protection, as amended; together with Article 76D of Law No. 35/2014 on amendments to Law No. 23/2002.’ He referred to the exact statutory references. During the investigation, the PPA investigators summoned ADO as both suspect and accused for statements. However, on two occasions, while still a civilian, he failed to attend without reason. ‘One of the measures in the investigation is to obtain statements from the parties, including the suspect (ADO), who at that time remained a civilian, but from the outset did not attend invitations or summons,’ Adhitya stated. According to information from ADO’s parents, their child had left home for Kalimantan, but the family claimed not to know his exact address in Kalimantan. Based on this, investigators put ADO on the wanted list (DPO) on 16 October 2025. ‘He (ADO) has been on the DPO since 16 October 2025,’ he said. He emphasised the case remains ongoing and denied any interference from any party in the investigation of the child sexual violence case. ‘To date, the case remains active, ADO is on the DPO, and there is no interference from any party,’ he told CNNIndonesia.com in response to questions about alleged interference. Adhitya said he had not received information that ADO, who had been placed on the Flores Timur Police DPO list, had joined the military recruitment. And now, after receiving information that ADO had passed the TNI selection and had been sworn in as a soldier at the start of this month, the authorities will immediately coordinate with Denpom AD.
