Police Continue Investigation into Motorcycle Licence Plate Used in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
Jakarta — Police are continuing efforts to investigate the vehicle registration plate (licence plate) on the motorcycle used by the perpetrator of an acid attack against Vice Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.
“We are still analysing (the authenticity of the registration plate),” said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Senior Commissioner Iman Imanudin, to reporters on Monday (16 March 2026).
Iman explained that approximately 260 variations of the registration plate number are being compared with the plate used by the perpetrator on the day of the incident.
“For the police number, we are still investigating because there are approximately 260 possibilities from the number that appeared,” Iman continued.
Although the face of the fourth suspected perpetrator is clearly visible in many CCTV recordings received, Iman emphasised that police do not want to act rashly before obtaining concrete evidence.
Evidence collected includes CCTV footage, communication networks, and laboratory examinations of evidence at the location, including helmets and the victim’s clothing, as well as helmets and containers allegedly belonging to the perpetrators.
As a result, the perpetrators, known to be scattered across the South Jakarta and Bogor areas, have not yet been arrested.
“We are continuing to gather legal facts based on analysis of CCTV footage and communication networks that we have obtained,” said Iman.
It was previously reported that KontraS Vice Coordinator Andrie Yunus was splashed with acid by an unknown person on Thursday evening.
As he passed through the location, two perpetrators riding a motorcycle, allegedly a Honda Beat model from 2016 to 2021, approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge).
The first perpetrator, who acted as the driver, wore a white-blue combination shirt, dark trousers allegedly made of denim, and a black helmet.
Meanwhile, the second perpetrator, seated at the back, wore a face covering or mask resembling a black buff that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue long trousers folded short and allegedly made of denim.
One perpetrator then splashed acid towards the victim, hitting parts of the victim’s body.
Andrie sustained burn injuries to both hands, face, chest, and eyes.
