Police Chief Welcomes Recommendations from the Police Reform Commission, to Follow Up Immediately

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) in principle will promptly follow up on the proposals that we believe will continue to improve the institution of Polri,” said General Sigit at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Several recommendations from the Police Reform Acceleration Commission include strengthening the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) and the governance of Polri. General Sigit stated that his side will follow up on all recommendations.

“Strengthening Kompolnas will of course be part of what we will implement immediately. Placement outside the structure will be discussed soon with the Coordinating Minister for Law. And also regarding governance issues, we have already prepared which ones fall under strategy, grand strategy for short, medium, and long term,” said General Sigit.

“So in principle, Polri welcomes the results of the recommendations from the Police Reform Commission and will follow them up immediately,” he added.

Polri Remains Under the President

One of the reported and approved recommendations by President Prabowo Subianto is the position of Polri. President Prabowo has chosen for Polri to remain positioned under the president, without the formation of a special ministry.

In addition, the Police Chief will still be appointed by the president. The name of the prospective Police Chief will be submitted by the President to the DPR for approval.

“Regarding the position of Polri, it remains as it is now. Polri is directly under the president and no security ministry or police ministry will be formed, or placing the police under an existing ministry. Polri remains directly under the president,” said Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra on the same occasion.
