Police Chief Urges Ojek Online Drivers to Use the 110 Service, Ensure Rapid Response to Incidents
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo urged online motorcycle taxi drivers to use the 110 Polri emergency service when facing emergencies. General Sigit reaffirmed that Polri would be there to respond to the public’s needs. He made the appeal during the online taxi and public order and security (Kamtibmas) workers’ rally ‘Nyago Bumi Sriwijaya Aman Bae’ at the Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium in Palembang, South Sumatra (Sumsel), on Sunday 8 March 2026. General Sigit said he hopes ojol drivers can become strategic partners of Polri. ‘On the one hand, online motorcycles are expected to be strategic partners in public order and security by providing information quickly to the Police using the 110 service when crimes occur on the streets or incidents that require the Police’s rapid attendance at the location,’ Sigit said. Sigit hopes the police’s swift service can curb street crime. The Kapolri also asked his ranks to establish strategic places to foster ties with online motorcycle taxi riders. ‘With this partnership, it is hoped to reduce crime and enhance the disclosure of crimes that occur on the ground,’ Sigit said. ‘In addition, I also request that in each region places be built to help provide services such as free workshops, online-ojek cafes, and continued cultivation of partnerships between the Police and online motorcycle taxis in the region,’ he added. The Kapolri also instructed the heads of the regional police to prepare a Panic Button application to protect victims of street crime. General Sigit highlighted the safety of online motorcycle taxi drivers from the potential crime of robbery with violence (begal). ‘Furthermore, to protect ojol who are potentially at risk of becoming victims of robberies on the streets, I ask the regional police chiefs to immediately prepare the panic button application to protect and safeguard our online motorcycle taxi colleagues so they do not become victims of crime on the streets,’ he said. Authorities have also developed a Labour Desk at the provincial police (Polda) and at the district level (Polres). This is intended to address labour issues and industrial relations quickly. ‘The desk has a capacity equivalent to the central level, so labour and industrial relations problems can be resolved quickly and accurately,’ he added.
