Police Chief Reveals Peak Mudik and Return Dates, Beware of Traffic Jams!
Jakarta — The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) Listyo Sigit Prabowo has disclosed the peak periods for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H (2026) homebound and return travel.
Listyo stated that for the 2026 Eid celebration, there will be two peak waves of homebound and return travel. For the first wave of peak homebound travel, he indicated it will occur on 14-15 March 2026. The second wave of peak homebound travel is expected to occur on 18-19 March 2026.
“The prediction for the first peak homebound travel is 14 and 15 March 2026, while the prediction for the second peak homebound travel is 18 to 19 March 2026,” said Listyo during his presentation at the Full Cabinet Session on Friday (13 March 2026).
Meanwhile, the first wave of peak return travel is expected to occur on 24-25 March 2026, and the second wave of peak return travel is predicted to occur on 28-29 March 2026.
“For the prediction of the first peak return travel, it is 24 to 25 March 2026, whilst the prediction for the second peak return travel is on 28-29 March 2026,” he continued.
As a result, the police have prepared various traffic management schemes to prevent congestion in several locations, including measures such as odd-even vehicle restrictions, contraflow systems, and one-way traffic on the Trans-Java Toll Road, from the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road (Japek) at kilometre 70 to the Semarang-Solo Toll Road at kilometre 421.
“We have prepared management systems ranging from one-way, contraflow to the odd-even system, including arrangements in crossing areas, which previously involved a delaying system, buffer zones, and online ticket sales systems, as well as push-in systems,” explained Listyo.
In addition, the police have also initiated a joint decision letter (SKB) regarding restrictions on heavy trucks with three or more axles, with exemptions for vehicles carrying essential goods, foodstuffs, and fuel.
“Joint agreement letters have been prepared to ensure that homebound and return travel can be managed well. Starting with restrictions on freight transport operations, we have already implemented the arrangements for this,” he stated.
