Police Chief Predicts Two Peak Waves of Eid Homecoming and Return Migration This Year
Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has forecast that the peak Eid holiday homecoming traffic will occur in two waves during this year. The first peak is predicted to happen on 14–15 March 2026, followed by the second peak on 18–19 March 2026. The return traffic peaks are predicted to occur in two periods: 24–25 March and 28–29 March 2026.
Listyo made these predictions during a cross-sectoral coordination meeting for the preparation of Operation Ketupat 2026, held at the Mutiara Auditorium of STIK-PTIK Lemdiklat Polri in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026. The meeting was attended by several ministers and representatives from the military and state-owned enterprises.
The police chief’s forecast for the first peak homecoming traffic corresponds with the government’s work-from-home policy implementation. “The prediction for the first peak of homecoming traffic is likely to occur on 14–15 March, then the government implements work-from-home, which is typically between 16 and 17 March. Meanwhile, the prediction for the second peak of homecoming traffic is on 18–19 March,” Listyo stated.
Listyo estimated that the return traffic congestion peaks would occur twice. These predictions are based on surveys conducted by the Traffic Directorate and the Ministry of Transportation, and comparisons with the actual number of homebound travellers from the previous year.
“The prediction for the first peak of return traffic is on 24 and 25 March. The prediction for the second peak of return traffic is from 28 to 29 March,” said Listyo.
