Police Chief Predicts Peak Return Flow for Eid al-Fitr 1446 H to Begin on 24 March
Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo predicts that the peak return flow for Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah will begin on 24 March 2026. This follows the outbound flow trend that has been ongoing since 18 March, with a 4.26% increase in vehicle volume compared to last year.
The prediction was conveyed by the Police Chief while monitoring security for the takbiran night alongside TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya at the Integrated Post in Merdeka Field, Medan, on Friday (20/3).
“The peak return flow is predicted to start on 24 March 2026,” Listyo stated.
On that occasion, the Police Chief appreciated the 3.23% decrease in traffic accident fatalities during this year’s outbound period.
Nevertheless, he emphasised the importance of vigilance for drivers to avoid overexerting themselves during the journey.
“We advise outbound travellers to remain cautious. Utilise rest areas and integrated posts for breaks. Do not rush, as it endangers safety,” Listyo said.
To address potential extreme weather, Polri has coordinated with BMKG to conduct weather modification operations.
Listyo instructed all task force units at integrated posts to promptly anticipate risks of flooding or landslides along the outbound routes.
Additionally, to ease return flow density, the government suggests utilising the Work From Anywhere (WFA) programme from 25 to 27 March 2026. Restrictions on vehicles with three or more axles will also remain in place until 29 March 2026.
“I have instructed all Polri and TNI ranks to secure the Eid al-Fitr celebrations under the motto ‘Safe Outbound, Happy Family’,” he stated.
Meanwhile, North Sumatra Deputy Governor Surya assured the readiness of road infrastructure in his region through mapping of three main routes: the western, central, and eastern cross routes.
Surya also reported significant progress in post-disaster emergency handling in 12 regencies/cities. A total of 263 landslide points, 19 road break points, and 65 road subsidence points have been addressed.
“The Simpang Rampa – Sibolga route via Batu Lubang is now connected with an open-close system. We advise outbound travellers from Tarutung to Sibolga to use the alternative route via Poriaha for safety,” Surya concluded.
