Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, inaugurated 57 Merah Putih Presisi Bridges in the Ogan Ilir region of South Sumatra (Sumsel) on Saturday to facilitate residents’ access.

“We are inaugurating the construction of 57 Merah Putih Presisi Bridges in accordance with the President’s directive for the benefit of the people,” General Sigit said during the event, as quoted in a statement received in Jakarta.

He explained that the connecting routes were deliberately built by the Police so they could be used by schoolchildren, farmers, and local residents to speed up or facilitate access.

Thus, he said, residents who previously might have had to detour can now travel much shorter distances with the bridges in place.

Moreover, Sigit hopes that the bridges will help reduce farmers’ logistics costs, so that the economy for the community can grow.

He also expressed appreciation for his ranks and urged them to continue guarding and supporting what has become government programmes for the Indonesian people.

“I would like to thank all ranks and continue to work with enthusiasm to truly implement what is the President’s programme for the people,” he said.

In the same region, the Police Chief also attended a nationwide corn-planting rally across Indonesia in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra, for Quarter I 2026, as a commitment to completing the President’s target for food self-sufficiency.

“Of course this is a programme and commitment of the Polri to ensure we can really meet the target set by the President,” Sigit said in a statement received in Jakarta.

Sigit stated that to realise food self-sufficiency, particularly for corn, the Police will continue to work with farmers’ groups, elements of society, and all related ministries/agencies.

“Alhamdulillah today we are conducting the corn planting rally simultaneously for the first semester, and this event forms part of the continuation of our target to plant one million hectares,” Sigit added.
