Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has revealed positive achievements in securing this year’s Eid homecoming. Despite a significant surge in the number of travellers, the traffic accident rate during the Eid homecoming and return flow period in 2026 experienced a 7.8% decrease compared to the previous year.

High appreciation was expressed by the Police Chief to the public and all security personnel. According to him, collaboration among all parties succeeded in suppressing the accident rate amid a 20.49% increase in travellers, reaching 2.9 million people compared to 2025.

“Of course, I also thank the public and all members who this year managed to keep the accident rate, especially regarding fatalities, reduced,” said Sigit after monitoring the return flow at Bakauheni Port, Lampung, on Saturday (28/3/2026).

He explained that the decline occurred not only in the number of incidents but also in the fatality rate. Accident cases resulting in deaths decreased by 112 cases, with a total of 265 fatalities recorded.

During his inspection, Sigit once again urged the public who are still on their return journey to always ensure their physical condition and vehicle roadworthiness. He reminded drivers not to push themselves if feeling tired.

“Especially those still undertaking quite long journeys, be really careful. Rest areas and buffer zones have been prepared by the government; utilise them well,” emphasised the former Head of Criminal Investigation.

He stressed the importance of resting until the body is fully fit before continuing the journey to ensure safety upon reaching the destination.

Regarding movement towards Jakarta and its surroundings, the Police Chief presented data that until Saturday morning, the number of vehicles that have returned reached 2.5 million units. It is estimated that the number of travellers yet to return is around 13%, or equivalent to 385,000 vehicles.

“This means that overall, we see that the peak return flow has been passed, and only 13.07% remains to be handled,” he stated.

The Police Chief hopes that the remaining return flow can continue to be managed well so that the entire public can enjoy the journey and arrive home safely.
