Police Chief: 40 per cent of Jadetabek residents depart for homecoming, peak expected tonight
Bekasi District (ANTARA) — The Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, stated that approximately 40 per cent of travellers from the Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jadetabek) metropolitan agglomeration have departed to travel home for the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period.
The Police Chief also predicted that the peak exodus for the second wave this week of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri celebrations would occur tonight through Wednesday (18 March 2026).
“Since Operation Ketupat Jaya 2026 commenced, traffic flow has remained relatively fluid despite increased volume. Already 40 per cent of Jadetabek residents have departed, with the peak expected tonight and tomorrow, with numbers continuing to rise,” Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri said in Cikarang on Tuesday.
“The situation remains fluid at present, so there is no traffic management in place yet, neither contraflow nor one-way arrangements. Officers in the field are standing by to secure the homecoming routes,” said the Metro Jaya Police Chief.
The Police Chief revealed that he conducted inspection and monitoring of several homecoming departure points today, including Pulogebang Bus Terminal, Pasar Senen Railway Station, and Soekarno Hatta International Airport.
The Police Chief has also instructed all Polres (district police) and Polsek (sub-district police) units to conduct patrols and strengthen security operations in conjunction with community representatives, such as village officials and neighbourhood associations, to ensure neighbourhood safety.
“Of course, residents travelling home should conduct a final check of their homes, and for vehicles we have instructed all Polres and Polsek units to accept vehicles left behind by departing homecomers,” he said.
