The revision of Law No. 2 of 2002 on the Indonesian National Police will regulate retirement age and the deployment of officers outside the police institution. Commission III Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburrokhman, stated that the police law revision includes several key changes. First, a clear emphasis on the goals and direction of Polri’s transformation towards openness, transparency, professionalism, integrity, and high-quality public service. Second, strengthening oversight functions and implementing openness principles through modern technology and information tools. Third, ensuring Polri’s neutrality and professionalism in human resource management and career development systems. ‘Fourth, strict and clear regulations regarding police officers serving outside the police institution,’ Habiburrokhman said during a working meeting with the Minister of Law at the parliament complex on Monday (25 May). Fifth, clearer and measurable regulations on retirement age aligned with organisational needs. Sixth, implementing an education curriculum incorporating humanitarian, democratic principles, and human rights protection as a reflection of a modern democratic state. ‘Seventh, strengthening the duties and functions of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) and redefining its position,’ Habiburrokhman added. Furthermore, Habiburrokhman stated that the provisions in the Police Bill will not deviate from the 1945 Constitution and MPR Decrees No. VI and VII of 2000. ‘This includes the presidential prerogative in selecting the police chief (Kapolri),’ he said.
