Police big wig set for counterfeiting trial

JAKARTA: A senior police officer is set to go on trial in the South Jakarta District Court on counterfeiting charges.

National Police chief Gen. Sutanto told a hearing with the House of Representatives' Commission III on legal affairs that the file on the high ranking police officer had been sent to the court two weeks ago.

Sutanto declined to disclose the name of the officer, but said that he was one of the 15 officers being probed by police after their bank balances were found to be suspiciously large. The Financial Transactions and Report Analysis Center (PPATK), the country's money laundering watchdog, reported the suspicious transactions to the National Police. --JP
