Police Arrest Two Suspects in Assault on PSI Deputy Chairman 'Bro Ron'
Police have arrested two suspected perpetrators of the assault on the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Ronald Sinaga, known as Bro Ron, which occurred in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday (4/5).
The Head of Menteng Metro Police Sector, AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, stated that the victim has filed a police report and has been taken for a medical examination. Additionally, statements have been taken from the victim and witnesses.
“The two suspected perpetrators have been secured at the police station for further processing,” Braiel told reporters on Tuesday (5/5).
The assault is said to have begun around 4:22 PM WIB when the victim, along with 15 others who are employees of PT Sinergi Karya Sejahtera, arrived to hold an audience at the office of Michael Putra and Partners. Their visit was related to unpaid wages for the employees.
However, the audience yielded no results. Consequently, the Menteng Metro Police Sector took the initiative to hold mediation at the police station.
“Initially, the audience process at the location proceeded safely and conducively with police accompaniment, until a group of unidentified individuals appeared and, without clear reason, carried out intimidation and obstructed the audience process,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri.
Erlyn stated that the actions of the group heated up the situation and led to an altercation. In that situation, the victim became the target of the assault by the group.
“Then, officers separated the victim and the suspects and secured them to be brought to the Menteng Metro Police Station for further examination,” Erlyn said.
The Deputy Chairman of PSI, Ronald Sinaga, known as Bro Ron, became the victim of an assault by individuals claiming to be two security officers from a law firm in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (4/5).
Ronald explained that the assault incident occurred while he was accompanying his colleagues in an audience with the leadership of the Michael Putra and Partners (MPP) firm regarding allegations of embezzlement of funds from PT SKS amounting to Rp9 billion.
According to Ronald, his colleagues, who are employees of the company, were demanding those funds from the MPP firm leadership as the fund managers.
Ronald said that initially, his colleagues along with several other employees held an action at the MPP office. Then, around 6:00 PM WIB, three individuals claiming to be security asked them to leave the building.
“An altercation occurred between these three individuals, the SKS employees, and me as well. But eventually, these three were repelled by members of the Menteng Police Sector who were already present at the location,” Ronald said.
Not long after, he said, the three security officers returned and became involved in another altercation, leading to the assault incident.
“Fifteen minutes later, these three individuals went back up to the fourth floor (location of the MPP office), and immediately the altercation started again. About 10 seconds after they appeared from the stairs, the assault occurred as shown in the video,” he stated.
