Police Arrest Man Who Assaulted Petrol Station Attendant in East Jakarta
The East Jakarta Metropolitan Police have arrested the man responsible for assaulting a petrol station attendant in Cipinang. One suspect was apprehended in connection with the incident.
“Yes, he has been secured. One suspect,” said Head of Criminal Investigation at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Dicky Fertoffan, speaking to reporters on Tuesday (24/2/2026).
Dicky did not elaborate on when or where the suspect was arrested.
A worker at a petrol station in the Cipinang area of East Jakarta was assaulted by a motorist who had come to fill up with fuel. The assault was captured on CCTV and subsequently went viral on social media.
Based on video footage reviewed by detikcom on Tuesday (24/2), the assault reportedly occurred on Sunday evening (22/2). The incident began when a man, believed to be the car owner, arrived to purchase fuel.
The man exited his vehicle and approached one of the petrol station attendants. The two were then seen conversing.
During their exchange, the man was observed pointing his finger at the attendant’s face. He then struck the attendant in the face.
After carrying out the assault, the man briefly returned to his car before exiting again, this time holding a bag.
He approached the petrol station worker once more, continuing to point and chase the attendant.
Shortly afterwards, the man left the petrol station area on foot, leaving his car behind. Upon returning, he was seen pointing aggressively at another man.
Senior Commissioner Dicky Fertoffan confirmed the incident and explained that the assault was triggered after the petrol station attendant refused to fill the man’s vehicle with fuel because its licence plate did not correspond to the appropriate category.
“Yes, this is under investigation. The individual wanted to fill up with Pertalite but was refused service by the petrol station. The licence plate was not appropriate — it did not match the designated allocation,” Dicky said.
