Police Arrest Malaysian National Carrying 99,000 Happy Five Pills Worth Rp 39 Billion
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The Narcotics Crime Directorate of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) arrested a Malaysian national named Muhammad Syafiq in connection with the trafficking of Happy Five narcotics. Bareskrim Narcotics Crime Director Brig. Gen. Eko Hadi Santoso said Syafiq was arrested at a hotel in Dumai, Riau, on Thursday (2/12).
“The joint team found three suitcases containing approximately 99,600 Happy Five (H5) narcotic pills wrapped in plastic wrap. Each bundle contained 1,200 pills,” he told reporters on Friday (2/13).
Eko explained that the case was uncovered when investigators received information about the drug trafficking on February 11, 2026. From the investigation, he said, the tens of thousands of pills of evidence were worth Rp 39.8 billion, with the seizure estimated to have potentially saved 19,920 lives from the dangers of narcotics abuse.
“The converted value of the evidence is estimated at approximately Rp 39,840,000,000, with an estimated potential of saving around 19,920 lives,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that during preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted he was offered a job as a drug courier by his friend Abu Faiz from Malaysia. The suspect was asked to carry three suitcases containing Happy Five narcotics.
“After accepting the offer, the suspect was contacted by someone claiming to be named Abu Ubaida and was asked to download the Zangi application as a means of communication,” he explained.
