Police Arrest 19-Year-Old Woman for Abandoning Newborn in North Bekasi
Bekasi — North Bekasi Police Precinct has apprehended a 19-year-old woman with initials N, who is suspected of abandoning her newborn daughter in Tytyan Kencana Housing Estate, Margahayu Village, North Bekasi District, Bekasi City.
North Bekasi Police Chief Kompol Tono Listianto stated that the suspect committed this act out of fear of being scolded by her parents. “The suspect has initials N. Her motive was fear of her parents and fear of being evicted from the house,” Tono told the media on Monday, 9 March 2026.
According to Tono, the suspect’s fear stemmed from previous occasions when her parents had evicted her for frequently coming home late or not returning home at all. “So she abandoned the baby in hopes that it would be found by someone,” Tono explained.
The baby abandonment was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) and the video went viral on social media. “One person has been secured because she is the one who abandoned the baby, as confirmed by CCTV footage,” Tono said.
According to Tono, the suspect gave birth to the baby in her home’s bathroom. Approximately 30 minutes after delivery, she abandoned the infant in the residential area.
A resident with initials LR initially heard a sound outside her house that she believed came from a cat. Curious, she went outside to determine the source of the sound.
LR then discovered the sound was coming from an old bathtub that had been converted into a rubbish bin in front of a resident’s house. Frightened, LR called two other residents, Mrs F and Mrs Y. They then requested assistance from local security personnel to inspect the contents of the bathtub.
“After the black plastic inside the bathtub was opened, they discovered a newborn girl who was still alive with the placenta still attached,” Tono said.
The baby was immediately taken by Mrs Y together with security personnel to Cahaya Amalia Clinic for medical treatment.
