Police arrest 14 dealers of controlled medicines in Central Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Central Jakarta Metro Police have arrested 14 dealers of controlled medicines or Schedule G drugs in various areas, seizing 35,143 pills as evidence. “We will not be complacent and will continue to close every loophole in the circulation of controlled medicines,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Pol Reynold E.P. Hutagalung, in Jakarta on Friday. According to him, the Narcotics Unit of Central Jakarta Metro Police uncovered 14 cases of Schedule G controlled medicine distribution in several vulnerable areas, with 14 suspects and 35,143 pills as evidence. Reynold stated that the 14 suspects arrested have the initials RU, ND, DC, M, MF, LH, AM, Z, S, AM, F, S, KM, and H. He said that the disclosure of these controlled medicine cases was spread across several areas, including Tanah Abang, Sawah Besar, Kemayoran, Cempaka Putih, and Johar Baru. These medicines should be used in accordance with medical regulations, but they are misused and freely traded in society. The Police Chief emphasised that his side will continue to enhance supervision and enforcement, both repressively and preventively, to suppress the circulation of narcotics and dangerous medicines. “Narcotics and dangerous drug crimes are not only carried out in an organised manner but also exploit various situations,” he said. Central Jakarta Metro Police also urged the public to play an active role in eradicating narcotics by not hesitating to report any suspicious activities in their surroundings. “We believe this success is inseparable from public participation. Even the smallest piece of information is very meaningful in narcotics eradication efforts,” said Reynold. The perpetrators are charged under Article 435 Sub-Article 436 (1) and (2) of Indonesia’s Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health, joined with Law No. 1 of 2026 on penal adjustments, or imprisonment of at least five years and a maximum of twelve years.
