Police apprehend armed motorcycle bandits in Depok, two suspects shot during arrest
Police have apprehended a motorcycle bandit syndicate armed with firearms during their operations in Depok, West Java. Two suspects were shot as a measured response after resisting arrest.
“Four suspects have been identified and detained, with the initials AS, RA, AH, and ZS,” stated AKBP Made Gede Oka Utama, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Depok Metro Police, during a press conference at the Polres Metro Depok on Monday, 25 May 2026.
AKBP Made explained that the four suspects operated across multiple crime scenes in Cilodong, Sawangan, and two areas of Bogor Regency.
“After receiving reports from the public, the Reskrim Unit of Depok Metro Police conducted an investigation and found that the suspects allegedly used improvised revolver-type firearms,” he said.
The modus operandi involved stealing motorcycles by damaging the ignition locks using letter-T keys and spare keys while armed with firearms.
“Based on police reports we have examined, no victims were injured. However, in one report, the victim reported seeing the suspects carrying a firearm, though it was not brandished,” he added.
The four suspects were arrested on Saturday, 23 May at Pondok Rajeg, Cibinong, Bogor Regency. AS and RA were identified as the motorcycle thieves, while AH and ZS acted as fences for the stolen vehicles.
“Two improvised revolver-type firearms, ammunition, and letter-T keys were seized as evidence. Additionally, around 20 motorcycle license plates were recovered from the stolen vehicles,” he said.
AKBP Made further explained that AS and RA would inform AH and ZS of the stolen motorcycles, which were then sold via courier services to locations outside the city.
“The two suspects responsible for the thefts operated primarily in Depok and Bogor. They relayed the stolen motorcycles to the fences, who then arranged sales through courier services to other cities,” he said.
The suspects face charges under Article 477 for aggravated theft and Article 306 of the Criminal Code for possessing and using firearms, with a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment.
