Palu — The Pojok Rupiah community and Palu City Government in Central Sulawesi have intensified an HIV/AIDS humanitarian awareness campaign to promote public understanding and prevention of the disease.

“HIV/AIDS is triggered by promiscuous behaviour, so through this campaign we are urging society to prioritise morality and promote health considerations,” said Imelda Liliana Muhiddin, Deputy Mayor of Palu, during the HIV/AIDS humanitarian campaign in Palu on Saturday.

On the occasion, she called on the public, especially young people, to avoid promiscuous behaviour, as such conduct damages mental and moral development whilst also having negative health impacts.

“We hope society becomes aware of the dangers of HIV/AIDS, and we also need to strengthen those affected so they have the will to live,” she stated.

Meanwhile, Rochmat Jasin, Head of the Palu City Health Office, revealed that the cumulative number of HIV/AIDS cases in the Central Sulawesi capital over the past 25 years has reached approximately 2,021 cases.

“The most important thing is how we build clean and healthy living behaviour. We have a strong commitment to improving public welfare from a health perspective, including continuous education so that HIV/AIDS does not become an epidemic disease,” he said.

He stated that active public participation is vital in efforts to prevent and control the disease.

“Palu City Government has provided referral health facilities for HIV/AIDS testing, namely Birobuli Health Centre and Talise Health Centre. The public is encouraged to utilise these facilities for self-testing,” said Rochmat.
