Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang (PNUP) Makassar has taken firm action against a lecturer from the Accounting Department with the initials IS, who has been found to have committed sexual harassment against three female students on campus.

In its official statement, the university stated that the handling of the case refers to Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation No. 55 of 2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (PPKPT).

“Based on the results of the examination and recommendations from the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK) at PNUP through letter No. 01/KS.RI/PPK/2026 dated 16 April 2026, the lecturer with initials IS has been declared to have committed acts of sexual violence that have impacted the psychological condition, sense of safety, and dignity of the victims,” said PNUP Makassar’s Public Relations Officer, Rita, on Tuesday (12/5).

Rita explained that PNUP has undertaken several concrete steps in addressing the case, from receiving the report, providing initial support to the victims, conducting examinations and investigations, to securing evidence related to the alleged harassment.

In addition, the Satgas PPKS has provided recommendations for firm sanctions to the university leadership based on the examination results.

“The PNUP Director then issued Decision Letter No. 693/DST/PL10/KP.04.04/2026 on 20 April 2026, which establishes the temporary deactivation of IS from all academic duties,” she revealed.

This deactivation includes teaching activities, supervision, and examination of final assignments or theses for students, as well as all other activities directly involving students.

Furthermore, through Written Warning Letter No. 741/DST/PL10.KP.04.05/2026 dated 23 April 2026, the university has also prohibited IS from entering campus areas 1 and 2 and from carrying out any activities in the PNUP environment.

“As a further disciplinary sanction, PNUP has imposed an administrative penalty in the form of a reduction in academic rank on the perpetrator through the Director’s Decision Letter No. 1211/P/2026 dated 1 May 2026. IS’s previous rank of Lecturer has been downgraded to Assistant Expert for 12 months,” she clarified.

Meanwhile, the university has assured that the three victims will receive psychological support through a trauma healing programme to aid their recovery following the incident.

The university, according to Rita, has conducted internal coordination with the polytechnic leadership, the Accounting Department, and the Student Executive Board (BEM) to ensure that the case handling proceeds comprehensively, justly, and with a focus on victim recovery.
