PNJ Student Borrowed UI Alumni Jacket to Participate in Demonstration at Police Headquarters
DEPOK — A Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ) student with the initials SB reportedly borrowed a University of Indonesia (UI) alumni jacket to participate in a demonstration outside the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.
This was revealed by Muhammad Hafidz Haernanda, Coordinator of the UI Student Council’s Social and Political Affairs Division, who received the information through his position.
“According to his account, he obtained this information from a friend. As for further motives, he simply wanted to participate in the protest,” Hafidz told Kompas.com when contacted on Monday, 2 March 2026.
However, Hafidz stated that SB remains a citizen who took to the streets to express his views.
“The UI Student Council’s response is that although he is not a UI student, he remains a citizen participating in street action to voice his opinion,” said Hafidz.
“It is also unfortunate that he was doxxed on social media,” he added.
In a separate development, SB, confirmed to be a PNJ student, has been called in by the campus and will face internal action in accordance with Student Conduct Regulations and the Student Code of Ethics.
Moreover, SB was not registered with the official protest group coordinated by PNJ student organisations, indicating his attendance was of a personal nature.
“The individual captured in the video is not registered with the protest group coordinated by PNJ student organisations and is known to have attended in a personal capacity outside official coordination,” stated Nurul Intan Pratiwi, Vice Director of Student Affairs at PNJ, in a statement on Monday.
In a circulating video, the man wearing the yellow alumni jacket is seen pointing his index finger directly at the face of a police officer who remains unmoved.
After being briefly pulled back by his companions, he returns to express his emotions before being pulled away by other protesters.
Following the protest, the man with the initials SH explained his reasons for the action.
He claimed to recognise one of the police officers on duty.
