PM Anwar Admits Meeting Prabowo to Discuss the Strait of Hormuz
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026) afternoon WIB. He regarded the meeting as full of significance and opening constructive space in finding common ground in facing the conflict in West Asia.
“A meaningful meeting with President Prabowo today opens constructive space in finding common ground to address the conflict in West Asia that is now pressuring energy security and global economic stability,” said Anwar in a press statement quoted in Jakarta on Friday night WIB.
He explained that amid increasingly acute global uncertainties, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the importance of strengthening principled regional solidarity to maintain peace, ensure stability, and bolster economic resilience. This step is taken for the welfare of the people.
Anwar stated that he and Prabowo agreed to enhance diplomatic efforts to ease the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a peaceful and sustainable resolution. “At the same time, the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured not to be disrupted,” said Anwar.
