PLN workers file complaint
JAKARTA (JP): Eight workers of the state-owned company PLN have filed a complaint at the Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute, searching for help over their dismissals.
Lawyer Apong Herlina said on Wednesday that the institute submitted the workers' claim to the South Jakarta District Court earlier this month. "We are now waiting for the court to schedule a hearing," she said.
She said the eight workers, whose duty was checking the cable installation carried out by contractors, were accused of the theft of cables worth over Rp 800 ($359,699) million in 1988.
She said that after an investigation by the company two workers were proven guilty and dismissed.
"However, the company kept investigating the case and dismissed the eight workers in 1990," she said.
The workers' complaints to the company unit of the civil servant's corps KORPRI was in vain.
"The company also did not accept a statement by the inspectorate general of the Mine and Energy Ministry to the effect that these people were not involved," she said. (03)
