PLN Says Power Supply in Batam Has Returned to Normal
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — PT PLN Batam has restored electricity supply to customers affected in Batam following a power system disruption that caused widespread outages on Monday (12 October 2026) at 06:37 Western Indonesian Time. The system was restored through intensive work by technical and operational teams, which brought the electricity network back online in stages.
Rudi Antono, PLN Batam’s company secretary, said the restoration had made significant progress since Monday evening. “All affected substations and transmission networks have been restored, followed by the recovery of distribution networks, bringing electricity supply back to all affected customers in Batam,” Rudi said in a press release on Tuesday (13 October 2026).
The restoration involved measured technical stages, from inspecting and restoring power plants and synchronising units to recovering transmission and distribution networks. Safety, system stability and reliability were prioritised throughout the process.
Although electricity supply has returned to normal, Rudi said PLN Batam would keep technical and operational staff on standby to monitor the system and ensure reliable supply to the public.
In addition to restoring electricity supply, PLN Batam said it was committed to upholding customers’ service-quality rights. If the disruption exceeded the applicable Service Quality Level (TMP) or agreed Service Level Agreement (SLA), the company would provide compensation in accordance with the rules.
Regular customers will receive compensation worth 10% of their monthly fixed charge, under Riau Islands Governor Regulation No. 22 of 2017. Customers on reliability services will receive compensation of 15% to 25% of their electricity usage charge (RPTL), depending on the type of service agreed.
“Compensation will be applied automatically to the next electricity bill, without customers needing to submit a claim. PLN Batam apologises for the inconvenience and appreciates the public’s patience, understanding and support during the restoration,” Rudi said.
Initial indications suggest the disruption may have been triggered by a wild animal entering the Sungai Harapan Substation area, causing a fault in electrical equipment and affecting supply in several areas. Technical teams and the relevant authorities are still investigating the exact cause.
