PT PLN (Persero) has responded to the growing number of public complaints on social media regarding electricity bills that have reportedly increased at the start of June 2026, particularly for post-paid customers.

Gregorius Adi Trianto, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and CSR at PT PLN (Persero), emphasised that no electricity tariff increases have been implemented for consumers. “PLN consistently implements electricity tariff policies as determined by the Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). For the April-June 2026 period, electricity tariffs remain fixed and have not changed from the previous period,” Gregorius told CNBC Indonesia on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

He suggested that the increase in bills experienced by some customers is not caused by tariff changes, but may be influenced by shifts in electricity consumption patterns. Factors that could potentially increase electricity usage include weather conditions, rising temperatures, and increased household activities leading to more intensive use of electronic appliances.

To monitor token purchase history and electricity bill payments independently, customers can use the PLN Mobile application to track and manage their usage patterns more efficiently. The steps to check usage history via PLN Mobile are:

  1. Open the PLN Mobile app;

  2. Select the “Token and Payment” menu on the main page;

  3. Click the “Add Customer ID” button (if not yet registered);

  4. Enter your Customer ID;

  5. Click the “Usage History” button (for post-paid customers) or “Token Purchase History” (for pre-paid customers).

Furthermore, PLN continues to urge customers to use electricity safely and wisely, including regularly checking home electrical installations and unplugging unused electronic devices to keep energy consumption controlled.

Complaints regarding rising electricity bills have surfaced widely on social media in recent days. An Instagram post from the account Depok24Jam noted that many residents are complaining about a surge in electricity bills for May and June 2026, despite feeling that their household usage patterns have not changed.

In a thread, an account under the name @zalkad claimed that the electricity tariff used in May 2026 experienced an increase, despite usage being the same as the previous month. “I just want to know, if many people are feeling this, it means it is not an anomaly, but there is something [going on],” the account stated, as quoted on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

Meanwhile, another account, @iinalin, stated that their electricity bill increased by up to 50%. “The electricity bill went up by as much as 50%. It’s so stressful. It went from Rp2.2 million to Rp3.3 million. This is crazy. I opened my electricity bill this morning and was shocked. How can this happen without any notice? I am confused as to why I wasn’t informed,” the user complained.
