Jakarta (ANTARA) - The President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Darmawan Prasodjo, has emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening national energy resilience, ensuring Indonesia’s energy future relies on efficient and sustainable utilisation of domestic resources. “With a spirit of togetherness, we can create a better energy future. We aim to deliver more affordable energy, encourage greater investment, and accelerate national development,” Darmawan stated in a press release received in Jakarta on Monday. This statement aligns with the government’s projections estimating investments in the electricity sector to surpass $500 billion to support energy transition targets. Darmawan previously stated that Indonesia requires a 48,000-kilometre transmission network as part of the national energy transition strategy, to bridge the gap between renewable energy sources—typically in remote areas—and major electricity demand centres in key economic regions. The Sumatra-Java interconnection project, utilising HVDC technology with a 112-kilometre circuit length, is one of the government’s priority projects currently in the preparation stage. The government and PLN have planned two HVDC (high voltage direct current) transmission projects over the next decade as part of the RUPTL 2025-2034. In response, the Indonesian Electricity Community (MKI) has partnered with CIGRE Indonesia (Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Électriques) to organise a workshop titled “HVDC Transmission: Indonesia’s Green Enabling Interconnection” in Jakarta on Monday. The workshop serves as a strategic forum bringing together industry players, regulators, and global stakeholders to discuss the role of HVDC technology as the backbone of green electricity interconnection in Indonesia. The Indonesian government continues to demonstrate its commitment to accelerating the energy transition towards a greener and more sustainable electricity system. Through the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025-2034, the government targets adding 69.5 gigawatts (GW) of new generation capacity, with 76% derived from renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, wind, and geothermal, supported by energy storage systems (batteries and pumped-storage hydropower). In detail, the renewable energy targets in the RUPTL include 42.6 GW from new renewable energy (EBT), comprising 17.1 GW solar, 11.7 GW hydro, 7.2 GW wind, and 5.2 GW geothermal. This commitment is further reinforced by President Prabowo Subianto’s statement targeting the construction of 100 GW of solar power plants (PLTS) in a relatively short time, as a strategic step to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while supporting the ambitious goal of 100% electricity from renewables within the next 10 years. The government has also allocated fiscal support for energy resilience amounting to Rp402.4 trillion in 2026.
