PT PLN (Persero), through its South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan Distribution Unit, delivered 23,040 Renewable Energy Certificates (REC)—equivalent to 23 megawatt hours of green electricity—to PT Borneo Indobara (BIB) on Sunday, 8 February 2026.

The collaboration represents PLN’s commitment alongside its partners to promote the use of environmentally friendly energy in the national mining industry through green mining initiatives.

With this addition, BIB’s REC service usage has become the largest in the Kalimantan region at 42,096 units, equivalent to 42 megawatt hours, up from the previous 19,056 units since 2023.

Raden Utoro, Chief Operating Officer of PT BIB, expressed appreciation for PLN’s commitment to supporting the Green Mining Realization programme, particularly through REC services. He noted that BIB’s projected electricity demand of 200 to 240 megavolt amperes by 2028 requires support from reliable, sufficient, and environmentally friendly power supply from PLN, in line with the Indonesian Government’s sustainable mining programme.

“We greatly appreciate PLN’s support for the government’s programme to actively reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, reduce fuel imports, and support national energy security,” Raden stated.

Raden further noted that BIB’s Green Mining Realization commitment extends beyond PLN’s REC services, with the company pursuing environmentally friendly approaches across various sectors, including operational fleet electrification. The company aims for 25 per cent of its fleet to be electrified by 2026, 75 per cent by 2028, and achieve zero emissions by 2028–2029.

Adi Priyanto, Director of Retail and Commerce at PLN, stated that this collaboration demonstrates PLN’s cooperation with industry players in supporting clean energy transition in Indonesia. PLN remains committed to providing green electricity services to support the competitiveness of Indonesia’s industrial sector, a key pillar of the national economy.

“We are fully committed to supporting national industrial competitiveness by promoting the use of clean and environmentally friendly energy,” Adi said.

According to him, PLN not only provides reliable electricity but also offers green products such as REC to help industrial customers enhance competitiveness whilst contributing to the national energy transition agenda, particularly green mining.

“Collaboration with the industrial sector is key to creating a sustainable clean energy ecosystem,” Adi added.

Iwan Soelistijono, General Manager of PLN’s South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan Distribution Unit, welcomed BIB’s initiative to utilise PLN’s REC services as part of implementing clean energy and green mining practices. He believes this collaboration can serve as a benchmark for clean energy transformation in Indonesia’s mining sector.

“We appreciate BIB’s trust in optimising REC services as a commitment to implementing green mining practices. We hope this spirit will inspire other industry players, so that the benefits of energy transition can be more widely realised,” Iwan said.

PLN’s Green Energy as a Service (GEAS) REC is an innovative green product that ensures transparent and internationally recognised renewable energy use. Each REC certificate verifies that the electricity consumed by customers comes from renewable or non-fossil power plants, with the US-based APX Tradable Instrument for Global Renewables (TIGRs) tracking system ensuring compliance with international standards.

In 2025, PLN’s national REC sales reached 6.43 terawatt hours, growing 19.65 per cent compared to the previous year. This growth demonstrates industrial and business customers’ trust in PLN’s green energy products and increasing customer awareness of energy transition.
