PT PLN (Persero) has presented the highest appreciation to media professionals through the PLN Journalist Awards (PJA) 2025, marking the sixth edition of the annual competition.

Under the theme “Sovereign Energy for a Strong Indonesia”, the awards competition successfully attracted 1,329 journalistic works from across Indonesia, with eighteen pieces selected as winners.

This year’s participation increased nearly threefold compared to 2020, which recorded 460 submissions.

PLN Chief Executive Darmawan Prasodjo stated that media professionals are strategic partners in building public understanding of the national energy transformation and transition agenda. “Media plays a fundamental role in ensuring that accurate, balanced information reaches the public. Through the PLN Journalist Awards, we aim to strengthen this collaboration and provide equal space for recognition to journalists across Indonesia,” said Darmawan.

He emphasised that amid PLN’s transformation process and the acceleration of energy transition towards Net Zero Emissions (NZE), open and credible communication is an important foundation for building public trust.

In response to increased participation, PLN introduced a new scheme this year called “Indonesia Top 100 Journalists”, which divides participants into three regional categories: West Java, East Java, and outside Java. This scheme is designed to expand participation access whilst ensuring equitable recognition for journalists throughout Indonesia.

Gregorius Adi Trianto, Executive Vice President for Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at PLN, explained that all submitted works underwent rigorous and tiered selection processes to guarantee objectivity and quality assessment. “All 1,329 submissions went through curatorial and multi-layered assessment by juries across different platforms. We ensure that every work is evaluated professionally based on journalistic quality, depth of issues, and public impact,” explained Gregorius.

Eighteen journalists were ultimately selected as winners across six categories: Single Photo, Photo Story, Video Hard News, Video Feature, Text Hard News, and Text Feature.
