PLN and the Ministry of Trade Collaborate to Launch Ultra-Fast SPKLU
PT PLN (Persero) together with the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) inaugurated an Ultra Fast Charging Public Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) at the Kemendag offices, on Thursday 5 March 2026. This step represents the synergy between the two parties in driving the acceleration of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia and expanding the availability of public EV charging infrastructure, particularly at government institutions. Trade Minister Budi Santoso expressed appreciation for PLN’s prompt response in meeting the needs of EV users. He noted that the growing number of EV users also requires more SPKLU availability, including within Kemendag. ‘Many thanks and the highest appreciation to PLN for providing this facility at Kemendag to support colleagues who use electric cars,’ said Budi. The facility is not limited to ministry staff. So, he added, friends or vehicles passing by can also charge here. This is a form of collaboration between the government and PLN. He noted that the trend of rising EV use is also occurring within Kemendag. About 15 per cent of staff have switched to electric vehicles. He hopes that with the extensive development of SPKLU at various points, the public will also be more confident to switch to EVs. ‘Our hope is that as more SPKLU are installed, more people will use electric cars. In the past, perhaps when there were not many, people were hesitant, but now there are more and more. We can wait, and there will be no problem; there are now many SPKLU to make it easier. And charging takes only 30 minutes, so 30 minutes is finished,’ said Budi. Since trial operations began in December 2025, the average utilisation of Kemendag’s SPKLU has continued to rise. By February 2026, the number of charging transactions at the three SPKLU units, each with a capacity of 120 kilowatts (kW), reached 2,460, with total energy delivered of 62,598 kWh. PLN Chief Executive Darmawan Prasodjo also expressed appreciation for the synergy between the two sides. He said the collaboration is PLN’s effort to accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition through the provision of infrastructure supporting the EV ecosystem. ‘The collaboration between Kemendag and PLN is part of the acceleration of the energy transition. It means shifting from expensive energy to cheap energy, from high-emission energy to low-emission energy, and shifting from import-based energy to domestic-based energy,’ he said in a statement on Friday (6 March 2026). He further explained that SPKLU development cannot rely only on PLN-owned land. Therefore, collaboration with various parties is key to expanding EV infrastructure in Indonesia. ‘Essentially, the need for SPKLU cannot simply be located on PLN land. Strategic lands are owned by ministries, hospitals, shopping centres, banking offices, and other public facilities. Therefore, we are ready to collaborate with all parties,’ he said. He added that going forward PLN and the government must create a conducive investment ecosystem so that more parties, including the private sector, can participate in SPKLU development. ‘We ensure that technically and commercially everything runs well so that investments in SPKLU are attractive and sustainable. Thus, SPKLU development is not only PLN’s task but part of a joint effort to build Indonesia’s EV ecosystem,’ concluded Darmawan.
