PT PLN (Persero) is taking extra steps to secure the reliability of the electricity system in Java. The effort is focused on two main paths: accelerating the technical recovery of disrupted power plants and strengthening the primary energy supply chain to ensure optimal plant operations.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo revealed that the company, together with Independent Power Producer (IPP) partners, is working intensively to repair two large power plant units currently facing operational constraints. This measure is being taken to restore the power reserve margin in the Java electricity system to a safe level.

“We are deploying all of PLN’s best resources together with IPP partners so that the repair process can run quickly and smoothly. Our target is for these plants to immediately resume operations to strengthen electricity supply in the Java system,” Darmawan said during a press conference on Friday (19/6).

In addition to technical repairs, PLN is also accelerating commercial and logistical processes to secure coal supplies, particularly Medium Rank Coal (MRC). This type of coal is crucial for the operation of several strategic power plants in Java.

Darmawan expressed high appreciation to the Government, especially the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), which has provided full support through assignments to a number of coal supplier companies.

“We thank the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Bahlil Lahadalia, along with the Directorate General of Electricity and the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal. The coordination facilitated by the Government between PLN, the suppliers, and electricity business actors has made the strengthening of primary energy supply run much faster,” he added.

Regarding load management or planned outages in several areas due to these operational constraints, PLN issued an open apology to all customers.

“We understand the inconvenience felt by the public. PLN and all partners continue to work maximally 24 hours a day to accelerate recovery. We are committed to ensuring that the reliability of electricity supply can soon return to optimal levels for all communities,” Darmawan concluded.

Currently, the process of shipping coal to power plants in the Java system is ongoing. With the arrival of primary energy supplies and the completion of plant repairs, the system’s power reserve is expected to increase significantly in the near future.
