Plastic Prices in Jakarta Rise by Up to 40 Per Cent, West Jakarta Highest
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has recorded a rise in plastic prices of up to 30–40 per cent since the end of March 2026, with the most significant surge occurring in West Jakarta. This increase has been triggered by disruptions to the global supply of raw materials due to geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East. The Head of the DKI Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Department (PPKUKM), Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, stated that the rise has affected various types of plastic across all regions of Jakarta. Plastic bags have increased by around 40 per cent to Rp 17,000 per pack from the previous Rp 11,000. The highest increase occurred in West Jakarta at Rp 19,000, while the lowest was in South Jakarta at Rp 14,833. Meanwhile, PET plastic for food or beverage packaging has also risen by about 35 per cent to Rp 22,000 per pack from the previous Rp 15,771. The highest increase again occurred in West Jakarta up to Rp 24,600, while the lowest was in South Jakarta at Rp 18,111. PE plastic has experienced varied increases across regions, with an average of around 30 per cent to Rp 21,000 per pack from the previous Rp 16,048. The highest price surge occurred in West Jakarta at Rp 36,733, while the lowest was in Central Jakarta at Rp 15,333. Elisabeth explained that the plastic price rise is triggered by geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, which have impacted the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This situation has disrupted the global plastic raw material supply chain to date. On the other hand, domestic production is said to only meet around 40 per cent of the national plastic raw material needs. “The remaining around 60 per cent still depends on imports,” she emphasised.
