JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Plastic bottles are no longer just household waste but can now be exchanged for vouchers to fill up Bahan Bakar Gas (BBG) for gas bajaj drivers. The programme is presented by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) as part of the company’s 61st anniversary celebrations.

Through this programme, the public can exchange plastic bottles for BBG vouchers for the Gas Bajaj Community (Komogas). Each plastic bottle is valued at Rp 400, with a maximum exchange of 61 bottles per participant.

PGN Corporate Secretary Fajriyah Usman stated that the programme is designed to encourage active public participation in plastic waste management while strengthening the use of more environmentally friendly energy through BBG.

“Through this programme, we want to invite the public to jointly build a culture of environmental care while supporting the use of cleaner energy,” said Fajriyah in a press statement on Monday (11/5/2026).

Fajriyah added that the programme is part of PGN’s commitment to delivering activities that provide economic benefits to the community while having a positive environmental impact.

“We hope this programme can be a small step that brings significant impact, both in reducing plastic waste and increasing public awareness to switch to more environmentally friendly energy,” Fajriyah explained.

She mentioned that the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) projects that all Final Disposal Sites (TPAS) in Indonesia could reach full capacity by 2030 if not balanced with more sustainable waste management.

“Through this programme, we want to encourage awareness that plastic waste does not have to end up in TPAS but can be processed back into products with utility and economic value,” said Santiaji.

Therefore, PGN is opening exchanges for plastic bottles at its head office. The collected waste will be managed together with Kertabumi Recycling Centre before being forwarded to Bank Sampah Al-Bustaniyah for further processing using the Plastic Waste to Souvenir method.

Santiaji explained that this management is carried out to ensure plastic waste has a continued utilisation cycle and does not end up in final disposal sites.

“We want to ensure that the collected waste truly has a continued utilisation cycle so it does not end up in final disposal sites,” Santiaji clarified.

“Through collaboration with various waste management partners, plastic bottles can be transformed into higher-value products such as furniture and paving blocks,” he continued.
