Jakarta (ANTARA) - Plan International Indonesia has expressed its support for the issuance of Communications and Digital Ministry Regulation (Permen Komdigi) Number 9 of 2026 concerning the governance of electronic systems in child protection.

The support was conveyed through an official letter to Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid. In the letter, Plan International Indonesia Executive Director Dini Widiastuti deemed this policy a concrete step to protect Indonesian children from various risks in the digital space.

“Plan Indonesia feels compelled to support the implementation of this regulation whilst also providing input to strengthen child protection policies in the digital space,” said Dini in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday.

“We hope to continue to be involved and contribute together with the Ministry of Communications and Digital in strengthening child protection in the digital space so that its impact becomes broader for children, young people, and Indonesian society,” she added.

The foundation, which works in the fulfilment of children’s and women’s rights, also provided several recommendations to strengthen the implementation of this policy. These include promoting the creation of a healthy and child-friendly internet ecosystem through improved digital literacy and strengthened roles of parents, schools, and communities.

Dini emphasised that these steps are important so that Indonesian children can grow and develop optimally.

“The hope is that children can grow physically, mentally, spiritually, cognitively, and socially well, so that they are able to learn and participate safely, meaningfully, and with dignity in the digital space,” she said.

“We appreciate the support of Plan International Indonesia. Child protection in the digital space cannot be done by government alone. This is joint work between government, civil society, parents, schools, and digital platforms so that Indonesian children can grow, learn, and participate safely in the digital world,” said Meutya.

She stressed that this policy was developed in the spirit of collaboration to create a healthier digital space for young people.

“The main objective of this policy is to ensure that Indonesia’s digital space becomes a safer place for children to grow and develop. With the support of various parties, we are confident that this step brings great benefits for the future of Indonesia’s generation,” she said.
