Commission III member from the PKS (Prosperous Justice Party) faction, Nasir Djamil, has expressed support for the police’s decision to dismiss First Class Private MS, a Brimob (Mobile Brigade) officer who assaulted AT (14), a junior secondary school student in Tual City, Maluku. Nasir described the National Police’s action as appropriate.

“I personally agree with the National Police Chief’s decision to dismiss the Brimob member in Tual who killed a teenager who was still a student. This action demonstrates that National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit wants to send a signal both within the institution and to the public that the police force is committed to reform and does not wish to harm the community,” Nasir Djamil said when contacted on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

Nasir said the dismissal also serves to contain the potential for outside parties to exploit the tragic incident for particular interests. “The dismissal is considered effective in containing the potential from parties who wish to exploit the incident for purposes beyond law enforcement. This is similar to an amputation carried out by a doctor on a patient,” Nasir said.

Nasir urged National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to evaluate standard operating procedures for security operations and the handling of protests. He said such an evaluation is needed to prevent similar incidents from recurring, noting that First Class Private MS had acted on the orders of his commanding officer.

“A comprehensive and transparent evaluation is urgently needed to restore public trust,” Nasir said.

First Class Private MS was found to have violated the National Police Code of Ethics in the assault case that resulted in the death of teenager AT. He was dishonourably discharged for the proven violation.

“The Police Ethics Commission handed down a ruling comprising, firstly, that the offender’s conduct is declared as reprehensible behaviour. Secondly, placement in a special facility for four days from 21 February 2026 to 24 February 2026,” said Maluku Regional Police Public Relations Head Commissioner Rusitah Umasugi early on Tuesday (24/2).

“And thirdly, dishonourable discharge from the National Police,” she added.

The ruling was based on an ethics hearing held by the Police Ethics Commission at the Maluku Regional Police Professional and Security Division hearing room. The hearing was chaired by Commissioner Indra Gunawan, assisted by Deputy Chair of the Police Ethics Commission Senior Superintendent Jamaludin Malawa and Ethics Commission member Senior Superintendent Jaku Samusi. The prosecutors in the hearing were Inspector Joni James Holey and Senior Brigadier Edward Jaya.
