JAKARTA — The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has supported the Indonesian government’s decision to suspend discussions in the Board of Peace (BoP).

PKS Secretary-General Muhammad Kholid viewed the move as a dignified and principled stance by the Indonesian government, particularly following military actions by the United States against Iran, despite Washington being the principal architect of the Board of Peace initiative.

“We cannot discuss peace at the negotiating table when one of the parties involved is acting as an aggressor that ignites and escalates the flames of war. Indonesia will not allow diplomacy to serve merely as a shield for destructive military actions,” Kholid stated in a written statement on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

Kholid emphasised that Palestinian independence represents a constitutional mandate that cannot be negotiated. “If the Board of Peace no longer advances justice for Palestine, then withdrawing from the BoP becomes a moral and political necessity,” he said.

PKS underscored the importance of Indonesia remaining consistent with its free and active foreign policy principles. “Free and active means we are free to choose allies based on truth, and actively work to eliminate colonialism worldwide. We must build international solidarity to ensure that there is no place for those who violate sovereignty in the world’s esteemed forums,” Kholid stated.

Kholid reiterated that Indonesian diplomacy must remain grounded in humanitarian values and commitment to world peace. “Our diplomacy is humanitarian diplomacy. Just as we account for every life in Gaza, we also care about stability across the broader Middle East,” he emphasised.

A government official responded to calls for Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace following Israeli and American attacks on Iran, noting that Board of Peace discussions are currently on hold. “The Board of Peace discussions are on hold now. Attention has shifted to the situation in Iran,” the official said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (3 March 2026).

Several nations within the Board of Peace have been affected by the escalation in the Middle East. “Regarding the Board of Peace, we remain in consultation and coordination with our Gulf partners, as they are also experiencing attacks and are members of the BoP as well,” the official added.
