Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Awakening Party (PKB) has stated that the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei should serve as an impetus for Indonesia to evaluate its participation in the Board of Peace (BoP). The PKB asserts that this incident is not merely routine geopolitical dynamics, but rather a test of Indonesia’s foreign policy consistency, grounded in constitutional mandate and moral conviction.

Luluk Nur Hamidah, Head of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at the PKB’s Central Leadership Council, stated that as a nation with extensive experience of colonialism, Indonesia understands the importance of safeguarding national dignity and sovereignty.

“We express our respect and deep regret, and convey our profound condolences that Iran’s Supreme Leader has been killed due to military aggression by the Zionist Israeli regime with the support of the United States. We stand with Iran at this time,” Luluk said during a press conference at PKB headquarters on Sunday (1 March 2026).

According to her, the post-attack situation presents a serious challenge to the BoP’s credibility. She questioned whether the BoP genuinely exists to establish global justice and peace, or rather pursues a particular political agenda.

“If the BoP can stand firm with its objective of creating global justice and peace, there will certainly be a firm stance from the leaders of the member nations. If not, its credibility could decline,” she said.

Luluk affirmed that the BoP is not a substitute for the United Nations (UN). Indonesia, she continued, maintains hope that the UN will be at the forefront in preventing wider conflict escalation. She also cautioned that attention to the Iran conflict should not divert Indonesia’s focus from the Palestinian issue.

“What is happening in Iran should not distract us from the fact that there is a widespread humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and Palestine,” she stated.
