Neng Eem Marhamah Zulfa Hiz, head of the PKB faction at the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), has stated that women’s empowerment is a strategic measure to break the cycle of violence against women and children in Indonesia.

“An empowered woman is the key to the emergence of a strong family and a healthy society. When women have access to education, economic opportunities, and decision-making spaces, the potential for violence can be significantly reduced,” Neng Eem asserted in her statement on Friday, 13 March 2026.

The statement was delivered at a dialogue forum titled “Ngobrol Penuh Inspirasi” (NGOPI) with the theme “Breaking the Cycle of Violence Against Women: A Multi-sectoral Review, Realising Empowered Women, Protected Children,” held at the MPR RI Building in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March.

Neng Eem further revealed data from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) of the Republic of Indonesia, indicating that thousands of cases of violence against women and children continue to occur annually in various forms, ranging from physical, psychological, and sexual violence to digital-based violence.

This situation demonstrates that prevention and protection efforts must be conducted systematically and sustainably. According to Neng Eem, the state must be present not only through regulation, but also through strengthening social systems that protect women and children.

“Breaking the chain of violence cannot be accomplished by one party alone. Collaboration by all elements of the nation is required to create a safe space for women and children,” Neng Eem continued.

Therefore, the PKB faction in the MPR RI will continue to strengthen constitutional values that uphold human dignity, including protection for women and children, through several strategic steps. These include strengthening policy and regulation for women and child protection, improving access to education and gender equality literacy, women’s economic empowerment for independence, strengthening family and community-based protection, and cross-sectoral collaboration between government, state institutions, women’s organisations, and media.

The “Ngobrol Penuh Inspirasi” (NGOPI) forum also featured speakers from state institutions, women’s organisations, community leaders, the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, Fatayat NU, and the Association of Small, Medium, and Micro Entrepreneurs of Nusantara (APIMSA).
