PKB Faction Leader in MPR Hosts Iftar, Emphasises Importance of Sharing During Ramadan
Neng Eem Marhamah Zulfa Hiz, head of the PKB faction in the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), hosted an iftar gathering and fellowship event titled “Munajat Cinta: Khotmil Qur’an, Santunan Yatim, dan Istighosah” (Love’s Supplication: Qur’anic Completion, Orphan Assistance, and Communal Supplication). Neng Eem stated that Ramadan represents a time for Muslims to restrain worldly desires whilst giving greater attention to spiritual needs.
She observed that amid the proliferation of consumer products creating increasingly diverse desires, Ramadan provides space for personal reflection. “Ramadan offers us a pause to reconsider these various desires. One way for us to act wisely in responding to them is by sharing with others,” Neng Eem said in a statement on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
The event took place on Sunday, 8 March, in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, and included orphaned children and members of the Alumni Association of the Islamic Students’ Movement (IKA PMII). Through the charitable distribution of assistance to orphans and breaking the fast together, Neng Eem hoped to strengthen social bonds within the community.
Neng Eem emphasised that mutual care and concern form a crucial foundation for maintaining national unity and strengthening Indonesian nationhood. “The feeling of caring for and being cared for is important. This creates a strong social foundation for preserving the existence of the Indonesian nation and state,” she said.
As a former chair of KOPRI within the Islamic Students’ Movement, Neng Eem reminded and urged PMII activists to continue championing nationalist and state values rooted in Islamic principles. She stressed the importance of critical thinking among activists in responding to contemporary developments. “Activists must remain critical in all situations to avoid becoming complacent or blindly following new trends,” she said.
Neng Eem expressed hope that religious and social activities such as this would continue to serve as spaces for strengthening fellowship and reinforcing national commitment within society.
