The Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Faction in the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Neng Eem Marhamah Zulfa Hiz, has welcomed the enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Act (UU PPRT) at the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), coinciding with Kartini Day today. The presence of the UU PPRT represents a mandate from the 1945 Constitution.

“For PKB, the enactment of the UU PPRT is the realisation of five articles in the 1945 Constitution, including Article 27 paragraph (2) on the right to work and a decent livelihood up to Article 34 paragraph (2) on social security for all Indonesian people,” stated Neng Eem in her remarks on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

Eem explained that Article 27 paragraph (2) states ‘every citizen has the right to work and a livelihood worthy of humanity’, thus the UU PRT will realise guarantees of fair wages, humane working hours, and rest rights for domestic workers (PRT). This was expressed by her at the DPR/MPR Building today.

“After enactment, the next step that the government must take is to immediately socialise and ensure that the UU PPRT is implemented by all relevant parties, especially employers,” she clarified.

Furthermore, Neng Eem explained that the UU PPRT aims to provide legal certainty for domestic workers and employers, while preventing discrimination, exploitation, and harassment.

As is known, the DPR has enacted the UU PPRT, which is a DPR initiative proposal, at the Plenary Session of the DPR led by the Chair of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani. This Act becomes a special gift amid the Indonesian nation commemorating Kartini Day.

“This regulation also encourages harmonious working relationships by upholding values of humanity and justice,” she concluded.
