The General Chairman of the Chinese-Indonesian Islamic Association (PITI), Dr Serian Wijatno, stressed the importance of active collaboration from all elements of civil society in maintaining stability and harmony, both nationally and internationally. The statement was made by Serian in response to the press on the sidelines of the ‘Dialogue among Civilizations for World Peace’ forum (International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations), organised by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Parliamentary Caucus for World Peace of the Indonesian House of Representatives and Regional Representatives Council at the Nusantara V Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (10/6/2026). This strategic meeting was designed as a platform for cross-sector and religious leaders to formulate a message of global peace, strengthen engagement between the government and civil society, and promote the principle of religious moderation (wasathiyyah Islam) amid global geopolitical tensions. This dialogue, he said, is a crucial momentum to prove that differences in culture, ethnicity, and religion are not dividers, but strengths for building a peaceful civilisation. ‘Through the principle of wasathiyyah Islam or moderation, we can erode extremism and build strong communication bridges within the global community,’ said Serian. The event was attended by national and international figures, including Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly Hidayat Nurwahid, Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta, MUI leader Anwar Abas, Chairman of the Parliamentary Caucus for World Peace Ahmad Doli Kurnia, leaders of religious mass organisations, as well as ambassadors, representatives of friendly nations, and representatives of the United Nations. Through this dialogue, all elements present, including PITI as an Islamic mass organisation in Indonesia, hope to produce concrete recommendations that can be brought to international forums, while simultaneously strengthening Indonesia’s position as a pioneer of peace and tolerance in the eyes of the world. Serian acknowledged that the core point of this meeting is essentially the reaffirmation of the UN’s function and the supremacy of international law in maintaining peace. Equally compelling, he said, the recommendations also involve building and strengthening sustainable cooperation among religious leaders, civilisational groups, and foreign diplomats to promote universal humanitarian values, while also echoing the commitment to world peace inclusivity in line with the mandate of the UN General Assembly Resolution concerning the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations.
