Tensions in the global shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz are affecting Indonesian shipping operations. Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has confirmed that two of its fleet are still detained in the Arabian Gulf area due to the unconciliatory security situation. As is known, Iran has stated that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed again, and ships attempting to pass were reported to have come under attack on Saturday (18/4/2026) local time. Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, revealed that as of now, the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro ships have not been able to cross the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital route for global energy distribution. “Both PIS ships, namely Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, are currently still in the Arabian Gulf and have not been able to cross the Strait of Hormuz,” said Vega in an official statement on Sunday (19/4/2026). “PIS continues to closely monitor the developments of the very dynamic situation in the Strait of Hormuz,” she added. “We are continuously conducting intensive coordination with various related parties, including ministries and competent authorities, while still preparing safe shipping plans (passage plan),” she explained. According to Vega, safety is the top priority in this uncertain situation, both for the ship crew and the cargo being carried. “The company’s top priority is the safety of all ship crew, ship security, and its cargo. We hope the conditions in that route improve soon and become conducive so that the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro ships can soon continue their voyage safely,” she concluded. Iranian state media stated that the re-closure was carried out because the United States did not fulfil the agreement. Iran accuses the US of still implementing a blockade against Iranian ports. Iran also warned that no ships are allowed to move from the anchorage area in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The UK’s Maritime Trade Operations Centre reported that two Revolutionary Guard speedboats fired shots at a tanker ship that was passing through.
