Pirelli develops AI-based tyre technology
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pirelli is reported to have acquired a 30 per cent stake in the Swedish technology company Univrses as part of efforts to strengthen the development of AI-based tyre technology. According to Carscoops on Monday (4 May) local time, this investment aims to integrate Univrses’ computer vision technology with Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre system. Cyber Tyre is a combination of hardware and software that allows tyres to collect data and communicate with vehicle systems. The system includes sensors embedded in the tyres, which can provide information not only on tyre conditions but also on road surfaces. With these capabilities, vehicles can more accurately understand road conditions and the environment and adjust their responses accordingly. Pirelli CEO Andrea Casaluci stated that this investment will strengthen the development of Cyber Tyre through the integration of AI-based vision technology. Meanwhile, Univrses CEO Jonathan Selbie said that data and continuous monitoring are now essential elements in infrastructure management. This collaboration has also been implemented in a pilot project in the Puglia region of Italy since 2025. The project combines data from Cyber Tyre with Univrses technology to monitor road network conditions in real time.
