Pilot of Fuel Transport Aircraft That Crashed in Nunukan Dies
A fuel transport aircraft is believed to have crashed in the hilly Krayan area of Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan. The pilot, Hendrick Lodewyck Adam, died as a result of the incident.
"The latest information we received at 15:16 Central Indonesian Time confirms that the pilot, Captain Hendrick Lodewyck Adam, has been declared dead," said the Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F Laisa, in a statement to journalists on Thursday (19/2/2026).
Lukman did not yet explain the cause of the crash of the Air Tractor AT-802 aircraft in North Kalimantan. The aircraft was reportedly on the Long Bawan–Tarakan flight route, specifically transporting fuel to remote areas.
"Based on preliminary data, the cause of the accident involving the aircraft carrying one crew member — the pilot — is currently still under investigation," Lukman explained.
Lukman stated that the aircraft had originally departed from Long Bawan Airport at 12:10 Central Indonesian Time bound for Tarakan Airport, carrying a cargo of Pertamina fuel with an estimated arrival time in Tarakan of 13:15 Central Indonesian Time.
The pilot, he continued, had communicated to Tarakan Air Traffic Control officers an estimated landing time at Abeam Malinau of 12:24 Central Indonesian Time. However, at 12:20 Central Indonesian Time, an Emergency Locator Transmitter signal was received from the aircraft.
"The investigation process will be carried out in accordance with prevailing regulations by the competent authorities," Lukman concluded.
