Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM) has stated that Indonesia’s energy supply situation is secure, both for fuel oil (BBM) and LPG, as the Philippines begins to face an energy supply emergency.

“For Indonesia’s conditions, the national energy supply is currently in a safe and controlled state, both for BBM and LPG,” said the Ministry of ESDM Spokesperson Dwi Anggia when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Anggia conveyed that the government is continuously monitoring global dynamics closely, including developments in the Middle East region.

The Ministry of ESDM, along with all stakeholders, has prepared various anticipatory measures to ensure the reliability of energy supplies remains maintained.

“This aligns with the directives of President Prabowo Subianto for all ranks to manage energy optimally and adaptively to global dynamics,” said Anggia.

One of the anticipatory measures is strengthening the monitoring of national energy supply and distribution, as well as diversifying energy supply sources.

“What also needs to be noted is the management of energy consumption in a wiser and more efficient manner,” Anggia stated.

He conveyed that all these measures are anticipatory and preventive in nature, so the public need not worry.

“Economic activities and the energy needs of the public remain the top priority to be protected,” said Anggia.

The Philippine government on Tuesday (24/3) became the first country to officially announce a national emergency due to disruptions in the global energy supply chain following conflicts in the Middle East region.

According to GMA News reports, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed an executive order that formally imposes the emergency state and activates a national response to restore energy supply stability and prevent economic impacts from rising fuel prices.

The Philippines sources nearly 26 percent of its national energy needs from the Middle East region, with a total budget spent on Middle East energy in 2024 reaching 16 billion US dollars.

Tensions in the Persian Gulf region have escalated since Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on 28 February, which so far has reportedly killed around 1,340 people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran then retaliated against that military aggression by launching drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries that host US military assets.

Tehran has also taken control of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for the world’s oil supply, with the majority of energy supplies for Asian countries certainly passing through that area.
