PHE-INPEX Alliance Launched, Targeting Oil and Gas Projects in Southeast Asia
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) is expanding its international footprint by partnering with INPEX Corporation to explore upstream oil and gas project opportunities in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
The agreement was formalised in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by PHE’s President Director Awang Lazuardi and INPEX’s Managing Executive Officer & Senior Vice President for Asia Projects Akihiro Watanabe at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (30/3/2026).
PHE’s Risk Management Director Whisnu Bahriansyah emphasised that this collaboration forms part of the company’s long-term strategy to enhance its global competitiveness.
“This collaboration reflects PHE’s seriousness in expanding strategic partnerships at the international level,” Whisnu stated at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, Japan, in a press release on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
He added that the synergy with INPEX is expected to unlock opportunities for developing oil and gas projects that offer not only commercial value but also contribute to Indonesia’s and the region’s energy resilience.
“We believe the synergy with INPEX will open opportunities for developing oil and gas projects that not only hold commercial value but also contribute to Indonesia’s and the region’s energy resilience,” he continued.
The partnership further solidifies the long-standing relationship between PHE and INPEX, which has previously been established through several strategic projects, including the development of the Abadi Project in Indonesia and collaboration in Malaysia’s SK510 Block.
This MoU serves as an initial strategic framework that will form the foundation for exploring business opportunities, joint studies, and potential future project developments.
Additionally, the company emphasised its commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in its business operations.
PHE implements a Zero Tolerance on Bribery policy to ensure fraud prevention and keep the company free from bribery practices, including through the implementation of an Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) compliant with ISO 37001:2016 standards.
