PGRI Appreciates Government's Decision to Maintain In-Person Learning
Secretary General of the Indonesian Teachers’ Union (PGRI), Dudung Abdul Qodir, has appreciated the government’s decision to continue implementing in-person learning amid the global energy crisis.
“I believe this is a very wise decision for teachers, students, and parents. Therefore, we from PGRI support the government’s decision through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology that there will be no online learning while the government faces a global energy-related crisis,” said Dudung when contacted on Wednesday (25/3).
Dudung explained that the experience of Distance Learning (PJJ) conducted online during the COVID-19 pandemic requires preparation and various supporting elements for the online learning process. Thus, not all regions will optimally carry out PJJ.
“It may be appropriate in some regions, but in other regions, especially remote ones, it is very unsupportive and will result in a learning process that is less quality, and ultimately the learning process does not proceed as we desire,” he stated.
In addition, Dudung said he asked the government to trust schools regarding the learning system because schools understand the field conditions. Each school has a school-based management concept.
Therefore, on technical matters, the government can give trust to schools on what situations and conditions allow the implementation of PJJ or to continue the learning process with in-person methods.
“Because I think the ones who know the school conditions best are the school principals, teachers, and school committees. So whether online or in-person, if prepared properly, the learning process will be meaningful and will have a positive impact on students, and most importantly, we avoid loss of learning,” he concluded.
