Concrete steps to maintain national energy resilience while promoting more environmentally friendly energy use continue to be strengthened. Chief Commissioner of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), Tony Setia Boedi Hoesodo, demonstrated this commitment by installing a compressed natural gas (CNG) converter kit on his personal vehicle.

The installation of the converter kit enables the vehicle to use a dual-fuel system, namely petroleum fuel (BBM) and CNG. This technology provides flexibility for users to switch from BBM to CNG simply by pressing a switch button near the steering wheel.

“We want to provide a real example that using CNG is a smart choice for daily needs. Vehicles can achieve fuel cost savings due to its affordable and stable price of Rp4,500 per litre, longer range, and it is also more environmentally friendly,” said PGN Chief Commissioner Tony Setia Boedi Hoesodo during the CNG converter kit installation in Jakarta on 2 April 2026.

The entire converter kit installation process was carried out by certified technicians, paying attention to safety standards, from tank placement to fuel flow system adjustments. This shows that CNG technology is ready for widespread use by the public.

“We emphasise the importance of maintaining CNG service quality so that its benefits can be optimally felt by the public,” added Tony.

Through this step, PGN invites the public to start considering the use of CNG as part of efforts to support national energy independence and resilience. PGN’s CNG services are currently operated by its subsidiary, PT Gagas Energi Indonesia. Gagas President Director, Santiaji Gunawan, expressed his appreciation for the commitment shown by PGN’s Chief Commissioner.

“This becomes an important momentum to encourage wider utilisation of alternative energy in society. This support also provides positive impetus for the development of the CNG ecosystem in Indonesia,” said Santiaji.

CNG users who have experienced its benefits have already joined the Komunitas Mobil Gas (Komogas). Gagas and Komogas have forged a strategic partnership in building the CNG ecosystem, including providing mobile workshops and disseminating education to the public about the safety and efficiency of CNG utilisation.
