PGN Commissioner Uses Gas-Fuelled Car, Can Switch to Petrol
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Tony Setia Boedi Hoesodo, Chairman of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), uses compressed natural gas (CNG) as the energy source for his car.
Tony has installed a CNG converter kit on his personal vehicle, allowing dual-fuel use of CNG and petrol.
Tony took this step as an effort to maintain national energy resilience and utilise environmentally friendly energy.
“We want to provide a real example that using CNG is a smart choice for daily needs,” Tony said in his official statement on Friday (3/4/2026).
Tony explained that operating a dual-fuel vehicle is quite straightforward. He only needs to press a “switch” button near the steering wheel to switch from petrol to CNG or vice versa.
“The vehicle can achieve fuel cost savings due to its affordable and stable price of Rp 4,500 per litre, longer range, and it is also more environmentally friendly,” Tony stated.
The installation of the converter kit, Tony said, is handled by technicians who hold licences and prioritise safety standards, such as the placement of the tank and the fuel flow system in the car.
He views the successful installation of the converter kit on his personal vehicle as proof that CNG technology can also be used by the public.
“We emphasise the importance of maintaining CNG service quality so that its benefits can be optimally felt by the community,” Tony said.
According to him, PGN’s CNG services are currently managed by its subsidiary, PT Gagas Energi Indonesia.
In the same statement, Santiaji Gunawan, President Director of Gagas, said that the decision to use CNG demonstrates Tony’s commitment to adopting alternative energy.
He mentioned that there is currently a CNG user community that has experienced the benefits of this alternative energy, called the Komunitas Mobil Gas (Komogas).
“This becomes an important momentum to encourage broader utilisation of alternative energy in society. This support also provides positive impetus for the development of the CNG ecosystem in Indonesia,” Santiaji said.
