Petrol station operator claims to have received death threats from security officer in East Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A petrol station (SPBU) operator in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, has claimed he was chased and received death threats from a male individual believed to be a member of the security apparatus.
“I was struck repeatedly. I ran to the back, towards the temporary accommodation facility. He chased me whilst saying, ‘Run, where are you going, do you want to die now?’” said Lukman Hakim (19), one of the operators at SPBU 3413901 in East Jakarta, on Monday.
The petrol station operator, who had only been working for six months after graduating from vocational school, explained that the incident began during his night shift on Sunday (22/2) at approximately 22:00 local time.
“I was on night duty initially and things were calm. The perpetrator’s car came in to fill up with fuel. I waited for his barcode, but after several minutes it still hadn’t been shown,” said Lukman.
According to Lukman, the queue of vehicles behind was growing longer, so he took the initiative to speed up the process by requesting the subsidy barcode required for filling up in accordance with Pertamina’s procedures.
Lukman noted that the vehicle’s registration plate matched, but the data and vehicle type in the barcode were different.
“The car appeared to be an Alphard, but the barcode listed the vehicle type as a Kijang. Under the standard operating procedures from Pertamina, even if the plates match, if the barcode is different, we are not permitted to fill up the vehicle,” said Lukman.
Allegedly angered by the refusal, the man immediately became aggressive at the filling area. The perpetrator was reportedly shouting and even challenging the attendants.
“As if challenging us, he said, ‘Who dares confront me?’” said Lukman.
A woman inside the car was heard trying to restrain the aggressive behaviour.
The situation did not end there. The perpetrator then approached another attendant and slapped a member of staff. A colleague, Abud Mahmudin, who attempted to calm the situation, also became a target of the assault.
Lukman initially believed the perpetrator had left the premises after his car moved forward. However, the man returned and approached Lukman whilst he was counting the cash takings.
The threats caused Lukman to panic and attempt to flee to safety.
“He struck me repeatedly. Then I ran to the back, towards the accommodation. He chased me there. Locals told me to go straight to the police station, so I ran to the police station,” explained Lukman.
After reaching the Pulogadung Police Station for safety, the perpetrator had apparently left and did not pursue Lukman further.
Meanwhile, two other victims remained at the scene to de-escalate the situation. One victim, Anam, had his shirt torn during the scuffle and assault.
The disturbance reportedly lasted for a considerable period, estimated at nearly one hour from approximately 22:00 to nearly 23:30 local time.
CCTV footage from the petrol station was subsequently reviewed together with police, including officers from the Regional Police (Polda). The recorded evidence has reportedly been secured for further processing.
“The CCTV has been reviewed by both the local police station and the Regional Police. All the evidence is there. After that, we were advised to file an official report,” said Lukman.
To date, police are still conducting further inquiries into the identity of the perpetrator, who is suspected of being a member of the security apparatus.
The victims hope that the case will be processed transparently and professionally to provide a sense of security for petrol station workers who carry out their duties in accordance with procedures.
“We have also reported this to the Pulogadung Police Station opposite the petrol station. And my employees who were injured have also undergone forensic medical examinations,” said Ernesta.
The Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police also visited the petrol station in connection with the assault case.
Previously, the three petrol station employees were alleged to have been victims of assault by an unidentified member of the security apparatus.
In total, there were three victims in the incident — one staff member and two operators. Khoirul Anam was slapped on the cheek, Lukman was punched on the right side of his jaw, whilst Abud was struck below the eye and on the cheek near his mouth, resulting in a tooth being knocked out.
