JAKARTA - Flooding in the Pesanggrahan area temporarily disrupted the operational services of the electric rail train (KRL) on the Tanah Abang-Rangkasbitung route on Monday (4/5/2026).

Pesanggrahan Sub-District Head Angga Saputra stated that the flooding that afternoon was quite extreme.

Angga himself admitted to being surprised upon learning of the flooding that halted the Greenline KRL journey.

“Usually, the severe ones occur at the end of the year. This is a bit odd, because not all points had rain. This is the extreme of the flooding,” Angga explained when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Not only caused by high rainfall intensity, water inflow from upstream areas was cited as an unavoidable cause of the flooding.

“This is the cause (of the flooding) along the railway tracks because of heavy rain intensity and the Kali Uangan river’s capacity cannot accommodate the water discharge, thus obstructing the water flow,” he clarified.

Angga mentioned that his team would also investigate other rivers around Pesanggrahan suspected of contributing to the flooding there.

For anticipating future flooding, Angga believes that routine dredging of the three rivers in the Pesanggrahan area is necessary.

“I’ve only been here for six months, I haven’t seen any yet. But it seems like there was (dredging) last year. Hopefully, in the future, it needs to be routine, for anticipation,” he said.

Additionally, he hopes to build new retention ponds or reservoirs to hold rainwater, given the area’s frequent flooding.
